There are many ways to show your support for education in Central Asia. Every action you take makes a difference.
Education is the antidote to ignorance, poverty, and war, and you can be part of the cure.
June 2024
Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2024! After a long winter, spring has finally sprung here in Bozeman. Watching myriad species of wildflowers bloom along the hiking trails reminds me of all the new beginnings that are taking place in the remote and mountainous communities of Central Asia thanks to donors like you.
In northern Afghanistan, primary schools for boys and girls are opening for the spring/summer semester. In Tajikistan, a community is cutting the ribbon on a new preschool. In Pakistan, classroom renovations and upgrades made possible by funds raised during our Spring campaign are getting underway. And here at CAI, we’re welcoming several student interns from Pakistan and Afghanistan who are experiencing life in America for the first time. We’re also excited to present our Annual Impact Report celebrating everything we were able to achieve in 2023 with your dedicated support. We hope that reading these and other updates will bring a little sunshine to your day.
This past month, we have been celebrating the release of our 2023 Impact Report. Last year, we assisted more than 42,000 people with education, economic opportunities, resources, school repairs, and so much more. If you haven’t taken a look yet, please browse through our full report and learn about the difference that your generosity and attention have made.
After four years of planning and hard work, we were delighted to officially open the doors of Preschool #2 in Tajikistan at the beginning of May! Click the button below to learn more about the history of Preschool #2, the building process, and future hopes for the school.
This spring, CAI embarked on an initiative to repair and revitalize schools across rural Pakistan and Tajikistan. Many CAI-supported schools were constructed decades ago and now suffer from the wear and tear caused by age and the harsh, mountainous climate. With your help, we can provide essential resources and create vibrant learning environments for children and teachers in these communities.
To ensure safe and healthy learning environments, CAI will invest in strengthening and enhancing critical building infrastructures, as well as adding important components like washrooms, running water, border walls, mini libraries, computer labs, and more.

Each summer, Central Asia Institute welcomes students from around the country – and the world – to work as summer interns. Our internship program not only affords students the opportunity to work alongside our team and gain firsthand experience in international development and non-profit management, it also provides CAI with valuable input and support from extremely talented and accomplished young people who represent the next generation of leaders and change makers. This summer, we’re thrilled to have several very special interns joining us from Afghanistan and Pakistan who are studying at U.S. universities.
CAI’s Executive Director, Alice Thomas, recently sat down with one of our interns, Rida, to learn more about her and what drew her to CAI’s mission of advancing education, especially for girls.
If you haven’t set up your donor portal yet, now is great time to do so! While you are not required to use this online portal in order to donate to CAI, it can be a great resource to easily update your payment method and donation amount, modify communication preferences, and manage your contact information.
If you are interested in setting up your donor portal or have questions about the portal, please contact Trudy at troberts@centralasiainstitute.org or call (406)-585-7841.
